Abstract

To meet the increasing industrial demand for supporting materials and to expand export opportunities, an Aluminum Chloride production plant is proposed in Indonesia. The plant will produce Aluminum Chloride from aluminum metal and chlorine through a chlorination process with a production capacity of 60,000 tons per year. Its establishment is expected to reduce national dependence on imported Aluminum Chloride, support domestic chemical industries, create job opportunities, reduce unemployment, and strengthen the Indonesian economy. The process begins by reacting aluminum metal and chlorine in an electric furnace at 660°C. The product gas is then cooled in a shell and tube cooler to 300°C, followed by a cooling condenser to sublimate aluminum chloride vapor at 150°C. The condensed product is separated into solid aluminum chloride and carrier gas. The solid is transported using a screw cooling conveyor to a ball mill, then collected in a hopper, packaged, and stored in product tanks. The carrier gas is cooled and treated in a scrubber with sodium hydroxide before being sent to waste treatment. The plant will operate continuously for 24 hours per day over 330 days per year, employ 195 personnel, and be located at Jl. KH. Yasin Beji No. 6, Kotabumi, Purwakarta District, Cilegon City, Banten. Based on the economic evaluation, the project requires a total capital investment of Rp 836,117,303,249. Annual production costs reach Rp 2,308,308,551,938, while annual product sales are estimated at Rp 2,628,000,008,410. The financial indicators show an ROI of 28.13% before tax (21.09% after tax), an IRR of 16%, a payback period of 2 years and 1 month, and a break-even point of 30.65%.
