Abstract
An Acrylonitrile plant from Acetylene and Hydrogen Cyanide using Cuprous Chloride catalyst will be established in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The main raw materials are Acetylene and Hydrogen Cyanide. The Acrylonitrile production process consists of three stages. The first stage is the raw material preparation stage, where Acetylene and Hydrogen Cyanide are heated to 80°C, while the Cuprous Chloride catalyst is dissolved using process water. The second stage is the reaction between Acetylene gas and Hydrogen Cyanide gas to form Acrylonitrile with a concentration of 80%. The Acrylonitrile is then separated from the other components using an absorber with process water as a solvent. The third stage is the purification stage, where Acrylonitrile is purified using a distillation column to achieve a purity of 98.9%. Afterward, the Acrylonitrile product is stored in a storage tank and then packaged. The electricity needs of the proposed Acrylonitrile factory will be met by the State Electricity Company (PLN) and a generator set. Water will be sourced from the Ampal River, the nearest river to the factory site. The factory will utilize a Limited Liability Company (PT) system, with a line and staff organizational structure. The factory is planned to operate continuously, operating for 330 days per year during the production period.
