Abstract

This study focuses on monitoring the dynamics of shoreline changes in Cilacap Regency, a vital coastal area in the south of Java Island, from 2016 to 2025 using remote sensing technology. The primary data used are Landsat 8 satellite images, processed using ArcGIS software (with the NDWI approach) and analyzed using two methods: Euclidean Distance and Haversine. The results of the analysis prove that over the ten-year period, the Cilacap coastal area as a whole experienced more new land formation (accretion) compared to land erosion (abrasion). Quantitatively, the highest accretion reached 122.24 meters on transect 9 in Wuluhan Wetan Village, Adipala District, while the smallest abrasion was recorded at 0.3 meters on transect 11 in Glempangpasir. Based on the T-test with Tcount = 0.495 < Ttable = 1.684, it was concluded that there was no significant difference between the results of shoreline changes produced by the two methods, indicating that both are suitable for use. However, the Haversine method is preferred because it is considered simpler and less complicated to apply to calculating distances on the Earth's surface based on geographic coordinates. Therefore, the integration of remote sensing data and geographic information systems has proven effective in analyzing coastline changes. Keywords: Shoreline Change, Cilacap, Landsat 8 Satellite Imagery, Geographic Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing.
