Abstract
The acetic acid plant with a production capacity of 60,000 tons per year is designed to be built in the Kendal Industrial Estate, Central Java, operating continuously for 330 days per year. The process utilizes liquid-phase oxidation of acetaldehyde with Mn-acetate as the catalyst, achieving a 95% conversion at operating conditions of 5 atm and 65°C. Gas-phase products are separated in a scrubber, while the reactor bottom stream is purified through a decanter and distillation to obtain 99% acetic acid. Economic analysis indicates that the plant is feasible, with a total capital investment of approximately Rp 1.56 trillion, an after-tax ROI of 20%, an IRR of 15.126%, a payback period of 3 years and 2 months, and a break-even point of 32.82%.
