Abstract

Shoreline change is a dynamic phenomenon influenced by abrasion, accretion, tides, and human activities, which significantly affect coastal ecosystems and land use. This study aims to analyze and map the shoreline dynamics of Parangtritis Beach, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, from 2016 to 2025 to support effective coastal management. Landsat 8 satellite imagery was used as the primary data source, processed for shoreline extraction using the NDWI index and manual digitization. Spatial analysis was carried out in ArcGIS by calculating shoreline displacement across 20 transects using the Euclidean distance method. The results indicate that the highest accretion occurred at transect 4 in 2022 with a value of 164.84 meters, while the highest abrasion occurred at transect 4 in 2023 with a value of -131.76 meters. These changes were influenced by waves, ocean currents, tides, climate variations, coastal vegetation, and beach slope. Based on the shoreline displacement from 2016 to 2025, the farthest abrasion was observed at transect 3 with -72.18 meters, and the smallest at transect 17 with -0.22 meters. Meanwhile, the farthest accretion occurred at transect 7 with 41.72 meters, and the smallest at transect 16 with 1.36 meters. The shoreline change rate shows the highest value at transect 7 with 4.635 m/year and the lowest at transect 3 with -8.020 m/year.
