Abstract

This Industrial Internship (Praktik Kerja Lapang) was conducted at PT Semen Gresik, Rembang Plant, from September 2 to October 2, 2024, with the aim of providing practical insight into real industrial operations and comparing theoretical knowledge with field conditions. The activities included direct observation of the cement production process, covering raw material preparation, grinding, homogenization, pyroprocessing, cooling, finish milling, and packaging. The internship also involved an overview of the plant’s utility systems, quality control laboratory activities, occupational health and safety practices, and waste management units for air, solid, and liquid waste. The special assignment focused on analyzing kiln feed composition using XRF data and simulating the use of paper sludge as a partial substitute for clay. The analysis evaluated key quality parameters including the silica modulus, alumina modulus, and Lime Saturation Factor (LSF) to assess the suitability of various raw material combinations for clinker formation. The results indicate that incorporating paper sludge in appropriate proportions can maintain kiln feed quality and presents potential benefits for process efficiency. Overall, this internship provided comprehensive insight into cement plant operations and demonstrated the practical application of chemical engineering principles within large-scale industrial systems
