Abstract

Low rice (Oryza sativa L.) production can be caused by poor seed quality and drought stress. The application of nanosilica-based seed nanopriming is expected to improve seed quality, growth, and yield of rice plants, especially under drought stress. This study aims to determine the appropriate concentration of nanosilica-based seed nanopriming and water application or field capacity under drought stress to improve seed quality, growth, and yield of rice plants. The study was conducted from March to July 2025 at the PT Advanta Seeds Indonesia Laboratory and the Komboh Hamlet, Sambirejo Village, Wonosalam district, Jombang Regency. Research I used a non-factorial experiment arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor, namely the concentration of nanosilica (0, 600, 900, and 1,200 mg/L). Research II used a factorial experiment arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, namely the concentration of nanosilica (0, 600, 900, and 1,200 mg/L) and the provision of water or field capacity (3 cm flooding, 100%, 75%, and 50%). The results of research I showed that the seed nanopriming treatment made from anosilica with a concentration of 600 mg/L (N1) was effective in improving seed quality because it had a significant effect on maximum growth potential, germination power, vigor index, and growth uniformity. Research II showed that the combination treatment of seed nanopriming with a nanosilica concentration of 600 mg/L and optimal water supply (3 cm flooding) was the right combination because it was able to increase the growth and yield of rice plants as indicated by the number of tillers, flowering age, harvest age, root length, number of panicles per plant, and root wet weight.
