Abstract

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) offers a sustainable approach to controlling pests in cocoa cultivation through ecological engineering. One such approach is the use of misting systems to modify environmental humidity in order to enhance the population of natural enemies. This study aims to analyze the influence of abiotic factors on the diversity of natural enemies in cocoa plantations. The research was conducted from January to March 2025. Identification results showed that cocoa fields treated with misting had a higher number of natural enemies, totaling 1,053 individuals, compared to 658 individuals in fields without misting. The misting application also resulted in higher natural enemy diversity (H'), richness (R’), and dominance (C’) indices, but lower evenness (E’) than the untreated fields. These findings indicate that misting can create a more favorable microhabitat to support natural enemy diversity, thereby strengthening the IPM approach in cocoa cultivation. Interestingly, the analysis revealed that temperature had a significance value greater than 0.05, indicating no significant correlation with insect populations. In contrast, humidity had a significance value below 0.05, showing a statistically significant, although relatively small, correlation with the increase in insect populations
