Abstract

The development of digital technology opens opportunities for innovation in learning methods, including history subjects that are often considered less engaging. This study developed a 2D Adventure RPG educational game themed around the Battle of 10 November, integrating branching narrative and lane tower defense mechanics to enhance students’ understanding of the historical event. The game allows players to make choices that influence the storyline while facing strategic challenges through lane defense mechanics. The study involved 23 students from SMP Negeri 6 Surabaya using a pre-test and post-test design, showing an increase in average scores from 53.48 to 94.78 with a Wilcoxon test result of p = 0.000 (< 0.05). The GUESS-18 evaluation indicated average scores ranging from 3.78 to 4.02, with all items valid (r > 0.413; p < 0.05) and high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.867). These findings confirm that the 10 November educational game effectively enhances students’ historical understanding, learning motivation, and cognitive and affective engagement in the digital era.
