Abstract
A man's masculinity is usually judged in terms of strength, success, leadership, and dominance. However, in the film “The Intern” masculinity is described differently, namely by showing the figure of a stay at home dad. This study discusses how the representation of masculinity in one male character named Matt. This film was written by the legendary director named Nancy Meyers, who throughout her career made many films with themes of feminism and gender. The research method used is qualitative research with John Fiske's semiotic approach that uses three levels of analysis, namely the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology. Data collection is done by means of documentation and observation. The results of this study indicate that the depiction of masculinity in the film cannot be separated from the ideology of the author. Matt's character in the film "The Intern" represents masculinity in the 1980s or known as the new man as a nurturer with the ideology of modern gender roles.
