Abstract

This study analyzes Japan's sports diplomacy through the Sport for Tomorrow (SFT) program in Indonesia using the theoretical framework of Özsarı et al. (2018), which emphasizes five main instruments, namely the utilization of international sports organizations, efforts to build a national brand, the utilization of media and technology, the role of sports ambassadors, and lobbying strategies. The research focuses on the implementation of Japanese sports diplomacy through the Sport for Tomorrow program in Indonesia. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, using secondary data from official documents, institutional reports, and related publications. The results show that SFT functions as an instrument of Japanese public diplomacy through the utilization of information technology, the dispatch of volunteer coaches and public figures as sports ambassadors, and lobbying between state leaders. The implementation of SFT in Indonesia not only contributes to the development of sports but also strengthens Japan's image as a caring and friendly partner. These findings confirm the relevance of Özsarı et al.'s (2018) perspective in understanding the effectiveness of Japanese sports diplomacy in Indonesia.
