Abstract

The Aniline-to-Acetanilide Plant, utilizing a crystallization process with a production capacity of 55,000 tons per year, will be established in the Krakatau Industrial Estate Cilegon (KIEC), located in Banten Province, West Java. Acetanilide is commonly used as an additive in the production of various products such as rubber elastomer enhancers, dye intermediates in textile manufacturing, and as an intermediate compound in pharmaceutical synthesis. The market demand for acetanilide in Indonesia remains relatively high due to its wide application in the pharmaceutical, rubber, chemical, and textile dye industries. The plant is designed to operate continuously for 24 hours a day and 330 days per year. The main raw materials used are aniline, supplied by PT Shandong Jinhao Chemical Co., Ltd. (Shandong, China), and acetic acid, supplied by PT Indoacidtama (Karanganyar, Central Java). The production process involves reacting aniline with acetic acid to form acetanilide under operating conditions of 150°C and 1 atm pressure in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR). The reaction proceeds for 5 hours with a 90% conversion rate. The resulting product stream is then sent to a centrifuge unit to remove impurities. Finally, the acetanilide is transferred to a rotary dryer, where it is dried and crystallized into acetanilide crystals with a purity of 94%.
