Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of mixing ratios between Waste Cooking Oil (WCO) and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) on the quantity and quality of biofuel produced through the fast co-pyrolysis process. The process was conducted at 450°C for 30 minutes with various WCO:HDPE mass ratios of 0:100, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25, and 100:0. The analyses performed include yield, density, viscosity, calorific value, cetane number, and chemical composition using GC-MS. The results show that increasing the proportion of WCO leads to higher yield, density, viscosity, and oxygenated compounds, but lower hydrocarbon content and calorific value. Conversely, higher HDPE content increases hydrocarbon concentration and energy value. The optimal condition was achieved at a WCO:HDPE ratio of 50:75, resulting in a yield of 75.92%, density of 0.8331 g/mL, viscosity of 2.9893 cSt, calorific value of 42.2 MJ/kg, and cetane number of 53. GC-MS analysis indicated that the biofuel contained 73.1% hydrocarbons. These results demonstrate that the produced biofuel meets the quality standard of B30 biodiesel fuel. Keywords: Co-pyrolysis, waste cooking oil, HDPE, biofuel, biodiesel (B30)
