Abstract

The Magnesium Oxide Plant from Dolomite and Bittern using the Dow Chemical Process is designed with a production capacity of 75,000 tons per year, located in the JIIPE Industrial Area, Gresik, East Java. The process operates continuously for 330 days per year. Dolomite and bittern are used as raw materials. The Dow Chemical process involves dolomite hydration, reaction with bittern at 85°C, precipitation with flocculant, filtration, and decomposition to produce high-purity magnesium oxide. The plant requires an area of 28,500 m² and employs 234 workers. Economic evaluation shows a fixed capital investment of Rp 918 billion, a rate of return of 26.29% after tax, and a payback period of 3 years and 9 months, indicating that the plant is economically feasible.
