Abstract

The purification of butene-1 is a crucial step in ensuring product quality at the UCC2 New Polyethylene Plant, PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk. The degassing column plays a key role in removing light hydrocarbons and volatile impurities from the butene-1 stream. This study evaluates the degassing efficiency based on actual plant operating data, including pressure, temperature, and feed flow rate. Results from gas chromatograph (GC) analysis and mass balance calculations show that the column achieves an average separation efficiency of approximately 97%, with minor butene-1 loss in the off-gas stream. The unit operates within design standards, though optimization of reboiler temperature and operating pressure could further enhance performance.
