Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the mixing ratio between waste cooking oil (WCO) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) on the quantity and quality of biofuel produced through the pyrolysis process. The findings indicate that an increased proportion of WCO in the feedstock mixture enhances the yield, density, viscosity, and oxygenated compound content, while reducing the hydrocarbon content and calorific value of the resulting biofuel. In contrast, a higher proportion of HDPE leads to a decrease in yield, density, and viscosity, accompanied by an increase in hydrocarbon content and calorific value. The optimal performance was achieved at a WCO-to-HDPE ratio of 50:75, producing biofuel with a yield of 75.92%, density of 0.8331 g/mL, viscosity of 2.9893 cSt, calorific value of 42.2 MJ/kg, hydrocarbon content of 73.1%, acid content of 25.3%, aldehyde content of 1.6%, and cetane number of 53. These results demonstrate that the synthesized biofuel complies with the Indonesia quality standards of Biosolar (B30) diesel fuel, indicating its potential applicability as an alternative renewable energy source.
