Abstract

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) more commonly called a drone is a flying vehicle that is piloted using a remote control system or computer program embedded in a vehicle without human control. The two main types of UAVs on the market are fixed-wing UAVs and multi-rotor UAVs, both of which have their advantages and disadvantages including their suitability for specific applications. In this study, the author uses the Mission Planner application to configure the autopilot that can run on a fixed-wing UAV to fly automatically to form a figure of eight trajectories. The key parameters that have a major influence on the flying performance of fixed-wing UAVs are bank angle and aggressiveness. The best autopilot configuration to complete a set of figures of eight trajectories is obtained when the distance between the waypoints is 10 meters, the waypoint radius is 10 meters, the bank angle is 90 degrees, the maximum pitch value is 90 degrees, the minimum pitch is -90 degrees, and the aggressiveness value is 5 can complete the figure of eight trajectories in 20.75 seconds.
