Abstract
The Ammonium Chloride Plant with a capacity of 90,000 tons/year will be established in the JIIPE Industrial Estate, Gresik, East Java. This plant will operate 24 hours a day and 330 days a year using ammonium sulfate and sodium chloride as raw materials. The establishment of the Ammonium Chloride factory has the aim of stimulating other industries that use Ammonium Chloride as raw material and auxiliary material. Ammonium chloride is used as a raw material for the manufacture of dry battery cells, the fertilizer industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the food industry. A brief description of the process of the Ammonium Chloride Plant involves mixing a solution of Ammonium Sulfate and a solution of Sodium Chloride in a reactor equipped with a stirrer. In this mixing sodium chloride is given a slight excess of about 5%, both are heated to a temperature of 100oC. During the mixing process, stirring is carried out, to avoid the occurrence of deposits of sodium sulfate. Sodium sulfate is easier to precipitate because of its low solubility compared to other components. The result of mixing from the reactor in the form of a solution is then filtered to separate the Sodium Sulfate with Ammonium Chloride. The sodium sulfate in the form of cake is then washed to remove the remaining ammonium chloride content. Ammonium Chloride in the form of filtrate is then crystallized and dried. Some of the Ammonium Chloride in the mother liquor is recycled in the evaporator. This factory is planned to be established in the JIIPE Industrial Estate, Gresik, East Java and operates for 330 days / year with the following data: 1. Production Capacity : 90,000 Tons/Year 2.
