Abstract
Abstrak Korosi merupakan penurunan mutu atau perusahakan suatu logam karena bereaksi dengan lingkungannya. Untuk mencegahnya salah satu caranya dengan menambahkan inhibitor korosi. Inhibitor korosi suatu zat kimia yang ditambahkan ke dalam lingkungan korosif, walaupun dalam jumlah sangat sedikit (ppm) namun dapat menurunkan laju korosi logam. Salah satu yang bisa dimanfaatkan untuk inhibitor korosi adalah eceng gondok karena mengandung senyawa lignin. Bahan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini eceng gondok, natrium hidroksida, larutan natrium klorida 3.5%, dan baja tahan karat. Pembuatannya eceng gondok diekstrak terlebih dahulu dengan natrium hidroksida untuk mengambil senyawa lignin yang kemudian digunakan sebagai inhibitor korosi pada baja tahan karat. Pengujian laju korosi dilakukan dengan metode polarisasi potensiodinamik. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan hasil terbaik pada baja tahan karat 201 dengan konsentrasi penambahan inhibitor korosi 100 ppm uji laju korosi sebesar 0.0087 mm/tahun dan juga pada baja tahan karat 304 dengan konsentrasi penambahan inhibitor korosi 100 ppm uji laju korosi sebesar 0.0025 mm/tahun. Hasil tersebut memiliki efesiensi inhibisi lebih dari 90% menunjukkan eceng gondok cukup efektif digunakan sebagai inhibitor korosi pada baja tahan karat dalam media larutan natrium klorida 3.5%. Kata kunci: eceng gondok; inhibitor korosi; baja tahan karat; larutan natrium klorida 3.5% EFFICIENCY HYACINTH EXTRACK INHIBITOR ON STAINLESSSTEEL CORROSION IN SOLUTION OF SODIUM CHLORIDE Abstract Corrosion is a decrease in the quality or breakdown of a metal because it reacts with its environment. One way to prevent this is by adding a corrosion inhibitor. Corrosion inhibitor is a chemical added to the corrosive environment, although in very small amounts (ppm), it can reduce the metal corrosion rate. One that can be used as a corrosion inhibitor is water hyacinth because it contains lignin compounds. The materials used in this study were water hyacinth, sodium hydroxide, 3.5% sodium chloride solution, and stainless steel. The water hyacinth is first extracted with sodium hydroxide to extract lignin compounds which are then used as corrosion inhibitors in stainless steel. The corrosion rate test was carried out by the potentiodynamic polarization method. From this research, the best results were obtained on 201 stainless steel with concentration of addition corrosion inhibitor 100 ppm a corrosion rate test of 0.0087 mm / year and also on 304 stainless steel with a concentration addition of corrosion inhibitor 100 ppm a corrosion rate test of 0.0025 mm / year. These results indicate that water hyacinth is effective to be used as a corrosion inhibitor in stainless steel in a medium of 3.5% sodium chloride solution.
