Abstract

Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt.) is a horticultural crop widely cultivated due to its higher economic value and shorter harvesting period. However, to meet market demand, Indonesia still relies on imports, while domestic productivity and quality remain relatively low. Efforts to increase sweet corn productivity are required, particularly through the application of organic fertilizers and pruning practices. This study aimed to determine the optimal cow manure dosage and pruning method to improve the growth and yield of sweet corn. The research was conducted from October to December 2024 in Balongpanggang, Gresik, East Java. A factorial randomized complete design (RCD) with three replications was employed. The first factor was cow manure dosage: 10 tons/ha (S1), 20 tons/ha (S2), and 30 tons/ha (S3). The second factor was pruning type: no pruning (P0), pruning of three leaves below the ear (P1), tassel pruning (P2), and combined pruning of leaves and tassels (P3). Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by an LSD test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of 30 tons/ha cow manure combined with pruning of three leaves below the ear and tassel pruning produced the best outcomes for plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, ear weight with husk, ear weight without husk, ear diameter with husk, ear diameter without husk, sweetness level, and harvest index of sweet corn.
