Abstract
PPSDM Migas Refinery operates an Atmospheric Distillation Unit as the primary processing system in petroleum refining, consisting of main equipment such as crude oil and product tanks, a furnace, fractionation column, stripper, cooler, condenser, pumps, and five shell-and-tube heat exchangers that play a crucial role in preheating crude oil for thermal efficiency. To evaluate the performance of Heat Exchanger-02, an analysis was conducted, showing a clean overall coefficient of 5.4576 Btu/hr.˚F.ft², higher than the design value of 4.6136 Btu/hr.˚F.ft², indicating compliance with standards. However, the fouling factor was 0.0335 hr.˚F.ft²/Btu, exceeding the allowable limit of 0.004 hr.˚F.ft²/Btu. The pressure drops of 0.0039 psi on the shell side and 0.00348 psi on the tube side were well below the 10 psi limit, while the efficiency of Heat Exchanger-02 was relatively high at 84.8584%.
