Abstract

The increasing population growth and industrial activities have led to a higher demand for clean water and, at the same time, contributed to declining water quality. To address this issue, a drinking water treatment plant was designed using raw water from the Rejoso River in Pasuruan, East Java. This study aims to design an appropriate water treatment system capable of meeting drinking water quality standards set by the Ministry of Health Regulation No. 492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010 and Government Regulation No. 82/2001 on Water Quality Management. The design process involved analyzing raw water characteristics, determining suitable treatment units, calculating hydraulic profiles, and estimating construction costs. The treatment units included intake, presedimentation, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, aeration, rapid sand filtration, disinfection, and a reservoir. The expected performance of the designed system indicates effective removal of turbidity, suspended solids, organic matter, iron, manganese, and pathogenic microorganisms, ensuring the production of safe and clean drinking water for the community. The final design also considered efficiency, operational feasibility, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This project demonstrates the application of environmental engineering principles in providing sustainable solutions for clean water supply in urban areas.
