Abstract
This document presents a preliminary design for an ethylene glycol (EG) production plant with a capacity of 65.000 tons/year, located in Serang, Banten, Indonesia. The plant will produce EG via the catalytic hydrolysis of ethylene oxide (EO) and water, using Amberlyst15 as a catalyst. The primary motivation for this project is Indonesia's significant reliance on EG imports to meet domestic demand, driven largely by the polyester industry. The design includes an analysis of market needs, raw material and product specifications, and the selection of an optimal plant location based on key factors such as proximity to markets and transportation infrastructure. This plant aims to reduce import dependency and support the growth of the national chemical industry.
