Abstract

The dextrin factory from sago starch with an α-amylase enzyme hydrolysis process is planned to have a production capacity of 30,000 tons per year and is located in Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC). The resulting product is a white powdered dextrin with a Dextrose Equivalent (DE) value of 10. Dextrin products are widely used in various industries, such as food, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and paper. The dextrin manufacturing process begins with mixing sago flour and water to form a 30% starch slurry. The starch slurry is heated using a thermal jet for the gelatinization process at a temperature of 95℃ for 5 minutes. The gelatinized starch slurry then undergoes enzymatic hydrolysis with the help of α-amylase at a temperature of 65℃ for 1 hour so that the starch chain breaks down into simpler molecules in the form of dextrin. The dextrin solution formed is then purified by filtration to separate impurities, followed by evaporation to reduce the water content to reach 70% purity. The product is dried using a spray dryer until it forms a powder.
