Abstract

The Sulfuric Acid Plant with a capacity of 350,000 tons/year will be established in the JIIPE Industrial Estate, Gresik, East Java. This plant will operate 24 hours a day and 330 days a year using Sulfur and Air as raw materials. Sulfuric acid itself is one of the products that is very often used in the chemical industry in Indonesia, one of which is as a material for regenerating resin cations in mineral-free water production units in each industrial utility. Another use of sulfuric acid is as a pH adjustment in the water treatment industry. Briefly describe the process of the Sulfuric Acid Plant with the double contact process. The materials to be reacted in the reactor (Converter) are Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) and Oxygen from the air. Sulfur Dioxide previously came from Sulfur lumps that were melted and reacted with Oxygen from the air in the Sulfur Burner. The operating conditions of the reactor are 475oC and 1 atm. Sulfur Dioxide with a temperature of 1042oC is cooled using a Waste Heat Boiler for more efficient and maximum heat utilization. The reactor used is a Fixed Multibed reactor with a Vanadium Pentaoxide (V2O5) catalyst to help speed up the reactions that occur. To maintain the operating temperature in the reactor, Cooling Brine is flowed. After leaving the reactor with a temperature of 451 – 611 oC, the feed is flowed to the Economizer to be passed into the Absorber to produce Sulfuric Acid. The top absorber will remove unwanted gases into the environment with the help of the Stack. The bottom part of the absorber is concentrated sulfuric acid which is used to absorb water in free air and is carried out with a dilution process with a mixer before entering the product tank. This factory is planned to be established in the JIIPE Industrial Estate, Gresik, East Java and operates for 330 days / year with the following data: 1. Production Capacity: 350,000 Tons/Year 2.
