Abstract

Pabrik Calcium Carbide dengan kapasitas 60.000 ton/tahun akan didirikan di Jawa Integrated and Ports Estate (JIIPE), Gresik, Jawa Timur. Pabrik ini akan beroperasi 24 jam dalam sehari dan selama 330 hari dalam setahun. Pabrik Calcium Carbide menggunakan bahan baku batu kapur yang diperoleh dari PT. Aneka Sumberbumi Jaya serta coke yang berasal dari PT. Bukit Asam. Calcium Carbide dalam industri digunakan sebagai bahan baku utama dalam industri asetilen dan industri sianamida. Calcium Carbide dapat diproduksi dengan berbagai macam proses, salah satunya yaitu dengan proses pemanasan menggunakan electric arc furnace. Proses pembuatan calcium carbide dimulai dari persiapan bahan baku dimana batu kapur akan terlebih dahulu dikalsinasi untuk menghasilkan calcium oxide atau lime yang nanti akan direaksikan dengan karbon yang berasal dari coke pada suhu 2100 C dalam electric arc furnace dengan konversi sebesar 88% sehingga membentuk lelehan calcium carbide yang kemudian didinginkan di carbide chills. Selanjutnya dilakukan proses crushing dengan jaw crusher dan ball mill untuk didapatkan produk calcium carbide sesuai dengan spesifikasi dipasaran.
