Abstract
Liquid waste from the seaweed cooking process very rich of potassium hydroxide, the purpose of this research is to optimize use of liquid waste for cooking seaweed by adding phosphoric acid by means crystallization, which will form potassium phosphate fertilizer with levels of K2O and P2O5 can help agricultural sector. In this research, variations used concentration of phosphoric acid namely 5%;10%;15%;20%;25%;30%, variation volume of waste, namely, 200ml;300ml;400ml;500ml;600ml; 700ml and volume of phosphoric acid 50ml;150ml;250ml;350ml;450ml;550ml. The results showed that variations in the concentration of phosphoric acid had an effect on crystal formation and levels of K2O and P2O5. It was proven if the concentration of phosphoric acid was getting higher. If solution has a very acidic or basic pH then no crystals are formed. Crystals formed are susceptible to pH 2-5. Optimum conditions in the crystallization process of potassium phosphate were the waste volume of 500 ml and 250 ml of 10% phosphoric acid which produced mono potassium phosphate with levels K2O and P2O5 according to SNI. For crystal fertilizers, the trend shows the fertilizer is monocalium phosphate (KH2PO4) which can be seen with pH of the solubility which averages 3.9 - 5 with P2O5 levels obtained between 50.1% - 60%. Key words: seaweed industry; potassium phosphate; crystallization; wastewater; fertilizer
