Abstract

The Thematic Community Service Program (KKN) on National Defense and SDGs, conducted by Group 42 of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur, took place from July 1–31, 2025, in Sukolilo Baru Sub-district, Bulak District, Surabaya City. This program aimed to support SDG 8 (Decent Work and economic Growth) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through a participatory community empowerment approach. The main activities included MSME digitalization (e-commerce account creation, branding design, business identification number registration), training on converting kitchen waste into liquid organic fertilizer, producing detergent from soap concentrate, and promoting Pancasila values through the “Kampung Pancasila” program. Additional activities involved community clean-ups, mosquito larvae inspections, assistance in child and elderly health posts, and participation in the “Jum’at Curhat” public dialogue forum. The program employed Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology, covering observation, program design, implementation, evaluation, and the establishment of community task forces to ensure sustainability. The results indicated improvements in residents’ skills and participation, strengthening of local business identity, and increased environmental awareness. Challenges included limited digital literacy and varying participation levels, which were addressed through personal engagement and multi stakeholder collaboration. Overall, the program successfully delivered positive impacts on the local economy, society, and environment, while enhancing the role of students in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
