Abstract
An Ethylene Glycol plant from Ethylene Oxide and Water via a catalytic hydrolysis process with an Amberlyst15 catalyst, with a capacity of 70,000 Tons/Year, is planned to be established in the Mangureja area, Puloampel District, Serang Regency, Banten. In the chemical industry, ethylene glycol is used in the polyester (textile) industry, petroleum, paint manufacturing, brake fluid, solvents, resins, printing ink, foam stabilizer, coolant, and antifreeze. This plant will operate 24 hours a day for 330 days a year. This Ethylene Glycol plant uses ethylene oxide raw material from PT. Polychem and an Amberlyst15 catalyst. The ethylene glycol manufacturing process begins by feeding ethylene oxide and water into a fixed bed multitubular reactor at operating conditions of 100°C and 15 atm pressure. The reactor output, consisting of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, and water, is then flowed to a multiple evaporator to separate the ethylene glycol product from the water. The product from the evaporator is flowed to Distillation I to separate ethylene glycol from diethylene glycol and triethylene glycol. The overhead product is sent to the ethylene glycol storage tank with a purity of 99.9%, and the bottom product, consisting of diethylene glycol and triethylene glycol, is flowed to Distillation II. In Distillation II, diethylene glycol is separated from triethylene glycol. The overhead product, diethylene glycol with a purity of 99.8%, is sent to the diethylene glycol storage tank. The bottom product, triethylene glycol with a purity of 85.7%, is sent to the triethylene glycol storage tank. The provisions for the establishment of the planned Ethylene Glycol Plant can be summarized as follows: 1. Production Capacity: 70,000 Tons/Year; 2. Company Form: Limited Liability Company (PT); 3. Organizational System: Line and Staff; 4. Number of Employees: 184; 5. Operating Time: 330 days/year; 24 hours/day; 6. Plant Location: Mangureja, Puloampel District, Serang Regency, Banten; 7. Land Area: 38,863 m²; 8. Raw Materials and Catalyst: a. Ethylene oxide: 10,282.3 kg/hour, b. Water: 42,050.32 kg/hour, c. Amberlyst15: 5,233 kg/2 years; 9. Products: a. Ethylene glycol: 8,838.39 kg/hour, b. Diethylene glycol: 4,495.41 kg/hour, c. Triethylene glycol: 321.26 kg/hour; 10. Utilities: a. Steam Requirement: 38,026 lb/hour, b. Electricity Requirement: 2,664.99 kWh/hour, c. Water Requirement: 852.06 m³/hour, d. Diesel Oil Requirement: 248.67 liters/hour; 11. Economic Analysis: a. Fixed Capital Investment (FCI): IDR 924,128,550,830, b. Working Capital Investment (WCI): IDR 459,602,026,382, c. Total Capital Investment (TCI): IDR 1,383,730,577,212, d.
