Abstract

Declining productivity of coffee and annual crops in Sumberejo Village, Pasuruan, is closely linked to soil fertility degradation on sloping lands. This study aimed to assess land capability and soil fertility status to develop management recommendations. Research (June–November 2023) involved secondary data collection, field surveys, and laboratory analyses. Seven land mapping units (LMUs) were delineated, and 30 soil samples (0–30 and 40–60 cm depths) were collected using purposive random sampling. Soil physical and chemical properties were analyzed following the Soil Research Institute (2009) procedures, while fertility ratings were based on LPT (1983) criteria and the Fertility Capability Classification (FCC) system. Results indicated all LMUs are Andisols with slopes of 9–41%, slightly acidic pH (5.68–5.97), medium organic C (1.0–1.9%), medium available P (but low in steep units), low exchangeable K, moderate CEC (20–24 cmol(+)/kg), and low base saturation (14–22%). Overall fertility is classified as Low, with acidity, low K, and slope erosion as key constraints. Recommended management includes dolomitic liming, addition of local organic matter, site-specific K and P fertilization, and vegetative soil conservation.
