Abstract
This research investigated the effects of planting media and Gandasil-D fertilizer on the growth of basil (Ocimum sanctum L.). The study employed a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: type of planting media (soil; soil:compost:rice husk charcoal; soil:compost:cocopeat) and Gandasil-D fertilizer dosage (0, 4, 6, 8 g/l water), each with three replicates. Observed parameters included plant height, leaf count, primary branch count, total fresh weight, leaf weight, harvest index, and chlorophyll content. The results showed a significant interaction between planting media and fertilizer on leaf count, primary branch count, total fresh weight, and leaf weight. Planting media containing soil:compost:rice husk charcoal (M1) and soil:compost:cocopeat (M2) performed better than soil alone (M0). A Gandasil-D dosage of 6 g/l water yielded the best growth for most parameters, although no significant effect was found on harvest index or chlorophyll content. In conclusion, the combination of organic planting media and Gandasil-D fertilizer at 6 g/l water is the optimal treatment for enhancing the vegetative growth of basil.
