Abstract

The yield of basil plants is greatly influenced by the variety and level of adaptation to environmental conditions, so it is necessary to select a good variety of basil plants in order to produce high yields. The use of aerators in hydroponic growing media has been widely applied in efforts to increase the availability of O2 in the nutrient solution of floating raft hydroponic systems. This study was conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” East Java, from February 2023 to April 2023. This study was a factorial experiment designed using a Split-Plot Design (SPD) within a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with treatment factors consisting of main plots (No Pressure; 0.006 mPa Pressure; 0.012 mPa Pressure; and 0.015 mPa Pressure) and subplots (Genovese Variety and Italian Large Leaf Variety). The interaction between aeration pressure and variety was significant for leaf area, but no interaction was observed for other parameters. The aeration applied had a significant effect on the parameters of number of leaves at 25 HST to 35 HST, fresh weight of the upper plant part, leaf area, and root length. Aeration pressure of 0.015 mPa resulted in optimal growth and yield. Variety had a significant impact on plant height at 15 HST, leaf number from 25 HST to 35 HST, and leaf area. The Italian Large Leaf variety showed the most optimal growth and yield.
