Abstract
Soil is a vital component in agricultural systems that directly affects plant growth, particularly through its physical properties. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of soil physical properties across various land use types in Wotan Village, Panceng District, Gresik Regency, and to determine the land use type with the most favorable soil physical conditions. The research was conducted from March to May 2025 using a survey method and soil sampling through a purposive random sampling approach. Soil samples were collected from three land use types-plantation, dryland (upland), and rainfed rice fields-at two depths: 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm. Observed parameters included texture, bulk density, particle density, total porosity, and permeability. The results revealed variations in soil physical characteristics among the different land uses. Plantation areas exhibited lower bulk density and particle density values, as well as higher total porosity and permeability, indicating looser soil conditions that support better root development. Based on these findings, plantation land use demonstrates the best soil physical properties compared to other land use types in the study area. These results can serve as a reference for sustainable land use planning, particularly in limestone regions such as Wotan Village.
