Abstract
Proses pembuatan pentaeritritol dimulai dengan mereaksikan bahan baku formaldehida 37%, asetaldehida 99%, dan natrium hidroksida 50% di dalam reaktor. Konversi reaksi tersebut adalah sebesar 90%. Selain pentaeritritol, juga terbentuk produk samping, yaitu natrium format. Formaldehida dan asetaldehida yang tidak bereaksi dipisahkan dengan penguapan. Sedangkan natrium hidroksida yang tidak bereaksi dihilangkan dengan proses penetralan dengan cara menambahkan asam format di dalam tangki neutralizer. Lalu, campuran dialirkan ke evaporator untuk memekatkan pentaeritritol. Pentaeritritol pekat dialirkan menuju crystallizer untuk dilakukan proses pembentukan kristal. Pemisahan antara kristal pentaeritritol dengan produk samping natrium format dilakukan di dalam centrifuge. Setelah dipisahkan, kristal pentaeritritol mengalami proses pengeringan dan penyeragaman ukuran sebelum dilakukan proses pengemasan. Pentaeritritol yang dihasilkan memiliki kadar kemurnian sebesar 98%.
