Abstract
The agricultural sector makes a significant contribution to the Indonesian economy, but rice farmers still face welfare issues. This situation raises questions about the economic conditions of farmers with limited land, particularly in Ngengor Village, Pilangkenceng District, Madiun Regency. The objectives of this study were (1) to describe the characteristics of rice farming households with tenants, (2) to identify patterns of expenditure among farming households, and (3) to analyze factors influencing farming household expenditure. This study was conducted with 54 samples using the simple random sampling method. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicated that farming households were predominantly led by elderly heads of families, had low education levels, extensive farming experience, a small number of family members, and worked on limited land. The average household expenditure per year reached IDR 20,345,474, with allocations for food needs (53.58%) and non-food (46.42%). Income, education levels (elementary, junior high, and high school), and the number of family members significantly affected household expenditure. In contrast, land area did not have a significant impact. These findings emphasize the importance of income and education in the financial management strategies of farm households, as well as the significance of economic management in small-scale farming households.
