Abstract

Rice production in Indonesia, including in Sidoarjo Regency, faces several challenges such as land conversion, climate change, and limited infrastructure. This study aims to spatially map the potential of rice production in Sidoarjo Regency using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. The method involves spatial analysis to illustrate the distribution of planting area, harvested area, irrigation systems, and productivity at the sub-district level, supported by descriptive analysis to interpret the mapping results. The findings reveal that areas with well-maintained technical irrigation systems and available paddy field land, such as Tarik, Sukodono, and Wonoayu sub-districts, exhibit relatively high productivity. GIS-based spatial mapping proves to be an effective tool in identifying potential regions to support more targeted management of rice production. This study recommends the utilization of GIS as a strategic tool in agricultural planning and evidence-based policymaking to enhance food security in Sidoarjo Regency.
