Abstract

Membrane technology is an important industrial separation method. Inorganic membranes are superior to organic membranes. Ampo is a type of clay that can be used as raw material because it has Si and Al elements for the manufacture of microfiltration inorganic membranes. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of the membrane and the effect of additives and sintering temperature on membrane characteristics. The method used is the sintering method, with temperature variations namely (°C): 800, 850, 900, 950, 1000 and variations of additives from rice flour namely (%): 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50. The best results are at 50% additive variation and 800 °C sintering temperature with porosity value of 50.9375% and permeability of 3.2858E-06 ml.cm/cm2.s.Pa. The results of SEM-EDX, BET and XRD analysis show that the membrane has a surface area of 76.748 m²/g and an average pore size of 0.0455 μm with the most dominant composition of Si and Al so that the membrane is classified as a microfiltration inorganic membrane.
