Abstract
Rice husk is one of the agricultural waste products that is often overlooked. Rice husk has a very high silica content ranging from 87-97% so it can be used as a raw material for making silica gel. Silica gel is an inorganic material sourced from silicon and oxygen resulting from the polymerization of silicic acid which is arranged regularly. Silica gel is also one of the hydrophilic adsorbents that can be used to increase the purity of bioethanol. This study aims to make silica gel from rice husk ash with variations in the ratio of Sodium silicate and Aquades 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6 and 1:7 and the fermentation time variable for 3, 6, 9, 12 and 18 hours. Silica gel was analyzed for water content, FTIR analysis, SEM analysis and alcohol content analysis from its use as an adsorbent to increase the purity of bioethanol. The results of the study showed that the best silica gel was found in the 1:4 variation and 18-hour aging time with a water contest of 13.35% and the FTIR results were closest to conventional silica (Kiesel gel 60G)..
