Abstract

PG. Djombang Baru is a sugar mill that produces SHS (Superium Hoofd Suiker) sugar with a milling capacity of approximately ±3000 TCD. In addition to sugar, the factory also generates by-products such as bagasse, molasses, and filter cake (blotong). The production process involves several key stations, beginning with the preparation station that ensures the quality and quantity of sugarcane, followed by the milling station to extract juice. The juice is then purified at the clarification station to remove impurities without damaging sucrose content. Next, the evaporation station concentrates the juice by removing water, and the boiling station crystallizes the sugar. The centrifugation station separates the sugar crystals from the mother liquor using centrifugal force. Final processing occurs in the drying station, which reduces moisture content to improve storage stability. The laboratory conducts various analyses, including Brix, Pol, juice analysis, bagasse content, and other specific tests. Water is sourced from both surface (Gude River) and groundwater (wells), while steam is supplied by two boiler units for powering turbines, heating, evaporation, and crystallization processes. Electricity is sourced from the national grid (PLN) and backup generators. The factory produces several types of waste, including solid waste (bagasse, filter cake, boiler ash), liquid waste (pollutant and non-pollutant), gaseous emissions (flue gas and fine ash), and hazardous waste (used oil, batteries, lamps, cartridges, and filters), all of which require appropriate management to prevent environmental pollution.
