Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) internship program conducted at the Patimban Port Development Project Package 5, located in Subang, West Java, provided valuable hands-on experience for participants in understanding the implementation of large-scale construction projects. This project is part of a national strategic initiative under the Directorate General of Sea Transportation (DGST) and is carried out by a joint operation of major contractors: TOA – WASKITA – WAKACHIKU – HUTAMA KARYA – ABIPRAYA (TWWHA-JO). The total project duration is planned for 730 calendar days. A key aspect of the project is the management of heavy equipment, which includes productivity assessments for machinery such as excavators, dump trucks, crawler cranes, vibro rollers, cement trucks, motor graders, and concrete pump trucks. The selection of equipment is based on various factors such as project type, site conditions, soil bearing capacity, and equipment mobilization efficiency. Additionally, legal aspects are properly addressed, as confirmed through interviews with the project's HR department, indicating compliance with applicable laws and regulations. During the internship, participants were involved in various technical activities including carberth structure works, penetration tests, slump tests, pile cap and pierhead casting, reclamation work, CPM (Cement Pipe Mixing) spraying, PCCSP pile driving, and seawall construction. Quality control tests such as PDA testing and concrete strength testing were also conducted. Environmental health management plans were implemented by TWWHA through routine monitoring of air quality, water turbidity, vibration, and the surrounding ecosystem. Hazardous construction waste was properly managed and handed over to licensed waste management entities, while recyclable materials were reused on-site. Overall, this internship program provided comprehensive insights into port construction project management, covering technical, legal, and environmental aspects, and offered a real-world perspective on the challenges and solutions in delivering a major national infrastructure project.
