Abstract
Foundation is a crucial element in ensuring the stability and safety of building structures, especially in infrastructure projects such as the Lobawang Bridge in the Probolinggo–Banyuwangi Toll Road Project Package 3. The soil conditions at the research location consist of a clay silt layer at the top and dense sand at the bottom up to a depth of 30 meters, thus requiring an effective and efficient foundation method. The pre-boring method becomes one of the good choices to overcome these soil conditions, by conducting initial drilling in the hard soil layer so that the pile can be installed easily and without the risk of structural damage. This method is able to accelerate the pile installation process, making it a good option to use. This study aims to evaluate the use of pre-bored piles as an alternative to bored piles, with diameter variations of 0.8 m, 1.0 m, and 1.2 m. The evaluation is carried out through bearing capacity calculations using the Nakazawa method, settlement analysis with the Vesic method, as well as numerical modelling using PLAXIS software. The results indicate that the most effective and efficient foundation configuration—based on bearing capacity, deflection, and settlement obtained from both analytical and numerical analyses—is a pre-bored pile foundation with a 1200 mm diameter and 24 piles. The group pile bearing capacity reached 7,071.45 tons, with deflection remaining within the safe limit (< 6 mm), and settlement from PLAXIS simulation recorded at 22.2 mm. Moreover, the total construction volume was 178,128 m² with a completion time of 32 working days, effectively reducing the construction duration by 64 days compared to the eksisting design.
