Abstract

This study aims to optimize the tensile strength of RTV 683, RTV 48, and RTV M4503 silicone rubber through tensile testing based on the ISO 37-2017 standard. The testing process employs a hybrid approach combining the Taguchi method and Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The independent variables studied include silicone type, catalyst content (2%, 3%, and 4%), and Talc content (40%, 50%, and 60%), with tensile strength as the main response parameter. The experimental design was conducted using the Taguchi method with an L15 orthogonal array to identify initial optimal parameter combinations. Subsequently, RSM was applied to develop a quadratic regression model to evaluate the interactions between variables and determine the optimum combination. ANOVA results indicate that the catalyst factor has a significant influence on tensile strength, while Talc and rubber type show less dominant contributions. The predictive model was validated through confirmation experiments, showing good agreement between predicted and actual values. The optimal combination was achieved using RTV M4503, 4% catalyst, and 50% Talc. The hybrid Taguchi–RSM approach proved effective in improving testing efficiency and tensile strength optimization accuracy, and can be applied to the development of engineering materials requiring specific mechanical properties. Keywords: Silicone rubber, ISO 37-2017, Tensile test, Taguchi, RSM, Optimization.
