Abstract

The construction project of Jalan Lintas Selatan Lot 1A in Tulungagung, East Java, located in an area with hilly geographical conditions that have a high level of vulnerability to earthquakes and landslides. Based on historical earthquake data, the Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) value in Tulungagung Regency has increased from 0.341g in 2016 to 0.4632g in 2025. This study aims to analyze the stability of slopes reinforced with cantilever-type retaining walls at STA 4+550 against varying earthquake loads. The earthquake load variation used refers to the Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) value corrected for the amplification factor of 0.403g, 0.529g, and 0.544g based on earthquake data in Surabaya, Tulungagung, and Yogyakarta. The analysis was conducted through manual calculation and the use of Plaxis 2D auxiliary program. The results of the manual analysis show that the slope is stable with a factor of safety against overturning of 7,79, sliding of 9,85, and collapse due to soil bearing capacity of 11,68, all of which meet the minimum requirements in SNI 8460:2017. In addition, the analysis using Plaxis 2D resulted in a global safety factor value of 1.635, which is also in accordance with the minimum standard of 1.50. At earthquake loads of 0.403g and 0.529g, the existing slope remained stable with factor of safety values of 1.365 and 1.183, respectively, but began to show indications of instability at an earthquake load of 0.544g. To overcome the potential failure, it was planned to install geotextiles in the embankment area with a thickness of 1.1 mm and a tensile strength of 55 kN/m in each 30 cm thick layer of embankment. The analysis results after the addition of geotextiles showed an increase in stability, with a factor of safety value of 1.214 for an earthquake load of 0.544g, which met the minimum standard of 1.1 as stated in SNI 8460:2017.
