Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacteriumtuberculosis and spread through droplet inhalation. Children usually contract thedisease from close family members, and homeless and poor children are at higherrisk. TB is one of the 10 main causes of death globally, with a low cure rate inIndonesia. TB also causes significant morbidity and mortality due to high healthcare costs. In 2015, global TB cases reached 10.4 million people, with India,Indonesia and China being the largest contributors. In 2018, an estimated 10million people suffered from pulmonary TB, with the largest number of casescoming from India, China and Indonesia. The Indonesian government hasimplemented a DOTS program to prevent the spread of TB, which involves anti-tuberculosis treatment at community health centers for six to eight months.This research analyzes a dataset of TB sufferers in Malang Regency in 2019and 2023, which was obtained from KAMASUTA, the official website of the MalangRegency Communication and Information Service. Non-parametric statisticalmethods, namely the Mann-Whitney Test and Wilcoxon Test, were used to analyzesignificant differences in the number of TB sufferers between the two years. TheMann-Whitney test is used to test the difference in medians between twoindependent groups, while the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test compares two pairedsamples. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant difference in thenumber of TB sufferers in Malang Regency between 2019 and 2023.This research provides important insights for local governments, hospitals andother health institutions to formulate more effective policies in reducing TB caserates and increasing participation in health programs in Malang Regency. With anin-depth understanding of the characteristics of TB patients, it is hoped thatsignificant factors can be identified that will help design more relevant and effectivehealth policies. It is also hoped that this research can become the basis for further,more in-depth research regarding the factors that influence the spread of TB inother areas. In this way, it is hoped that efforts to prevent and treat TB can beimproved significantly, reducing the morbidity and mortality rates caused by TB inIndonesia
