Abstract
Krama Alus language is part of the local cultural wisdom that reflects politeness for the Javanese people. However, with the flow of globalization, there has been a decline in Krama Alus language speakers, especially among the younger generation. Most parents choose to teach Indonesian or a foreign language to their children for reasons of ease of communication and to face the future. Many children feel that Krama Alus language is difficult to understand and apply in their daily lives. To overcome this problem, innovative and interesting learning media are needed so that children are interested in learning and applying Krama Alus language in their daily lives. The right solution to this problem is an interactive illustration book in the form of a pop-up accompanied by a QR code containing sound. Interactive illustration books are very popular with children because they have a 3D effect. In addition, there is a sound QR code containing examples of Krama Alus language pronunciation so that children can follow and implement it in their daily lives. It is hoped that with this interactive illustration book, children can learn to speak Krama Alus and preserve culture. This design involves children in the Mataraman cultural group area of East Java aged 10-12 years where they are in grades 4-6 at the Elementary School level. This design uses qualitative and quantitative methods then analyzed descriptively. The data obtained are in the form of primary and secondary data involving the interview process, FGD (Focus Group Discussion), questionnaires, and literature studies. The data obtained are then analyzed and the results are in the form of keywords which are then used as a reference in the design. Through the design of this interactive illustration book, it is hoped that elementary school students, especially in the 10-12 year age range, can better understand and implement the Krama Alus language in everyday life. In addition to being a learning medium, this book also plays a role in preserving the Mataraman Javanese language and culture which is increasingly being eroded by the flow of globalization.
