Abstract

The Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Conservation Center in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, is one of the key facilities dedicated to the protection and rehabilitation of orangutans. This study aims to develop the design of the conservation center through an ecological architecture approach, which prioritizes environmental sustainability and harmony with the surrounding natural environment. This approach involves the use of environmentally friendly materials, energy efficiency, and a design that respects the orangutans' native habitat. Through an analysis of functional requirements, site potential, and ecological impacts, the proposed design is expected not only to provide an optimal rehabilitation space for orangutans but also to create an environment that supports public education about the importance of conservation. Sustainability is a central aspect of this project, emphasizing the use of renewable energy, efficient water management, and landscape design that supports biodiversity. With this approach, the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Conservation Center is envisioned to become a conservation hub that not only focuses on wildlife rehabilitation but also contributes positively to environmental preservation and raises public awareness about the importance of orangutan conservation and the protection of their natural habitat.
