Abstract

Narcotics are a complex issue with many aspects, including law, national security, health, economics, and social issues. In 2021, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime recorded approximately 296 million people using drugs worldwide. In Indonesia, there were 3,337,911 cases of drug abuse in 2023, with 96.1% of users never undergoing rehabilitation. East Java ranks third among provinces with the highest number of drug abuse cases but lacks adequate drug rehabilitation facilities, with most cases still handled by correctional institutions. According to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), not all drug abusers are criminals, but rather victims. Therefore, there is a need for drug rehabilitation facilities that can accommodate the high number of drug abuse cases in East Java, equipped with adequate infrastructure and facilities that prioritize the recovery of victims in all aspects, from medical to social. Based on these issues, this design will adopt a healing therapeutic architecture approach as a design approach focused on the therapeutic healing process of a drug user. Through pragmatic considerations manifested through form transformation, the building is expected to facilitate patient recovery by creating a supportive, protective, comfortable, and nature-connected environment.
