Abstract

Hazardous and toxic waste management is something that needs attention. Not only B3 waste, the problem of waste in the form of plastic waste from daily activities is also one of the endless problems in Indonesia. Through these various problems, management is necessary. In this research, waste management is carried out by utilizing it, so that it becomes a product that is useful and safe for the environment. The hazardous waste utilized in this research is silica sand from the sandblasting process in the ship repair and maintenance industry as a mixture in making paving blocks. For plastic waste, it is used as filler or filler material in paving blocks with chopped Polyethylene Terephthalate type plastic. The composition used in the manufacture of conventional paving blocks is 1 Cement: 2.5 Sandblasting: 2.5 Sand. Additives (S) and (Aq) as admixture with a ratio of 0%; 0.1%; 0.2%; and 0.3% to change the properties of paving blocks tested on the 7th and 14th days. The test analysis used is compressive strength test, water absorption test, and Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure test. The optimum compressive strength test analysis was obtained by adding an additive ratio (S) of 0.3% which was tested on day 14 at 9.60 MPa. While the optimum value of water absorption test was obtained at the addition of additive (S) 0.2% tested on day 7 at 4.00%. To determine whether or not it is safe for the environment, the TCLP test on the paving block sample is declared safe, because the parameters tested have a value <LoQ. In general, the utilization of sandblasting process silica sand B3 waste is successfully utilized and safe for the environment with the classification of use obtained quality “D”.
