Abstract
Plastic waste that is disposed of directly into the environment will have an impact on the water area. Low recovery rates and improper disposal of plastic waste result in plastic waste in the environment. Microplastics are plastics that have a < size of 5 mm. The presence of waste generated from various domestic and non-domestic activities in the Jagir River can potentially result in the formation of microplastics. This study was conducted by determining the sampling location using the purposive sampling method with 3 sampling points. Sampling in the morning at 08.00 on Monday and Tuesday, water samples as much as 20 L and sediment samples as much as 400 g per data collection point Testing the relationship between water quality parameters and microplastic abundance using statistical correlation methods. The color of microplastics most commonly found is blue and the least commonly found is brown. The highest abundance in the water sample of sampling point 2 was 24,750 particles/m3 and the abundance in the sediment sample of sampling point 1 was 3390.53 particles/kg. The results of the FTIR test analysis showed the presence of types of nylon, polyester, PP, PET, PTFE, PVA and nitriles plastic polymers. The correlation between water quality parameters namely DO, COD, and TSS to the abundance of microplastics in the Jagir River, the value (p value < 0.05) with a very strong correlation level for the DO, COD, and TSS parameters, sufficient correlation level for temperature parameters, and a weak correlation level for ph parameters to microplastic abundance.
