Abstract
Intersections can be found in almost every drive. An intersection is a meeting point of two or more roads where traffic congestion is likely to occur. Traffic congestion is one of the main problems of big cities, including Surabaya. The intersection of Jalan Menganti - Jalan Sepat - Jalan Wisma Lidah Kulon is one of the connecting points from residential areas to educational areas, offices and business centers, as well as people's daily activities such as trading, which often experience traffic congestion, especially due to the lack of signal management system. This not only causes inconvenience to road users, but also has the potential to cause accident risks. The unsignalized intersection of Jalan Lidah Kulon, located in Lakarsantri Subdistrict, Surabaya City, has three arms, each of which has a high volume of vehicles, resulting in potential congestion. To overcome the density and queuing of vehicles at the intersection of Jalan Menganti - Jalan Sepat - Jalan Wisma Lidah Kulon, an intersection performance analysis is conducted using the Pedoman Kapasitas Jalan Indonesia (PKJI) 2023 method and alternative problems with signalized intersection planning. This research uses an unsignalized intersection performance analysis approach by collecting primary data through direct observation in the field. The parameters used include capacity, degree of saturation, delay, and queuing opportunities. The results of this study show the level of service at the intersection. In the Existing Condition (unsignalized), the maximum calculation results were obtained on Monday, May 18, 2024 morning peak hour (06.00-07.00) with a Degree of Saturation (DJ) value of 1.195, an Intersection Delay (T) value of 38.674 sec/SMP, and a Queuing Opportunity (Pa) value of 58.143 - 118.05%. Meanwhile, in the Design Condition (signalized), the maximum calculation results were obtained on Friday, May 17, 2029 afternoon peak hour (16.30-17.30) on Approach Arm A (Jalan Sepat Lidah Kulon) with a Degree Saturation (DJ) value of 0.847, an Intersection Delay (T) value of 27.406 seconds / MPH and a Queue Length (PA) value of 111.792m. Since the calculation results in the design conditions provide results that meet the standards (DJ ≤ 0.85), the alternative improvements in the form of installing traffic signals can be used as a reference to improve the performance of the intersection.
